Elmaz brings her 39 + years of knowledge and experience to these classes.  Formerly an instructor at the YMCA in Downtown Oakland Elmaz developed or co-created classes such as: Boot Camp, Barrelattes, Roller Pilates, R and B Dance and more.

Elmaz has studied the power, strength, overall fitness and the aging body, management of back pain, including Sciatica, piriformus syndrome and SI Joint issues.  She reinforces balance and alignment in her instruction. All her classes provide modifications for the most common issues.

Throughout her career at the Y and teaching in other clubs in the Bay and overseas, Elmaz has been obsessed with form but also with progress. Elmaz has been named by many of her class members, the Princess of Pain.

Besides having been certified in everything from Aerobics to Indoor Cycling to Pilates to Zumba, Elmaz continues her relentless study of the body’s functions and mechanisms. An IDEA member, Elmaz is always CPR licensed.

When the gym shut for the sake of public health during the pandemic, Elmaz answered the call of her loyal members and started offering classes on line, offering free classes four days a week.

She joined the fabulous affiliates listed with Sweat in Place Jack, Kym and Juliana of Sweat In Place are the resource for all kinds of classes with  varied beloved instructors.

Also a Professor of Creative Writing at Mills College, Elmaz’s expertise in education provides the class members not only with a workout but also with growing knowledge of the why and how of each move and protocol
